Barney's Version Movie Reviews
User reviews on Barney's Version
I really enjoyed watching this film. I have read the book as well and I thought the director did a great job with the adaptation of the novel. The movie is about television producer barney and his search for love and happiness over 35 years. Barney is a hard to love character but Paul Giamatti does such an excellent job as an actor that in the end of the movie you start to understand the reasons behind Barney’s behavior. Paul Giamatti truly shined in this film and I admire him as an actor. Minnie Driver was also amazing and Dustin Hoffman was so fun and entertaining as Barney’s loud father. Rosamund Pike was also brilliant and she is so beautiful. I caught myself thinking if it was realistic that Barney can get such a beautiful wife, considering that he is not a looker and can be very annoying. I thought the movie was full of feeling and it drew me in. I highly recommend seeing this film.
I really liked Barney’s Version directed by Richard J. Lewis. I have read the book by Mordecai Richler and I did notice that some facts were lost in the adaptation. There was no mention of the murder charges and no mention of barney’s relationship with his mother, which in my opinion is very important to the character. Apart from those mistakes the movie is really good and I truly enjoyed watching it. In my opinion the actors that the director chose were the salvation of this film. Every single role was played perfectly. Paul Giamatti as Barney is remarkable and I hope he will get nominated for this role. Minnie Driver was also amazing and she is still so beautiful. Rosamund Pike, as a third wife is really good as well, I wish she had more scenes in the movie though. Dustin Hoffman is superb as a life affirming and extremely loud Barney’s father. He lit up the screen every time and completely stole the show. Richard J. Lewis did an excellent job choosing the cast, it could have not been any better. I highly recommend seeing this film. You might not like the main character but you will find yourself trying to make excuses for him. I think it is because Paul Giamatti does such an amazing job portraying Barney.
Barney’s Version directed by Richard J. Lewis and starring Paul Giamatti is a movie about Barney Panofsky. He is hardly a lovable character, in fact he is simply an a****** who screws up everything he touches. The movie does not make any excuses for him and that’s why it is so good. It shows exactly who Barney is and how his actions affect other people. Paul Giamatti is absolutely wonderful as Barney, he shines in this role and truly deserves an Oscar for it. Paul does not make any excuses for Barney’s behaviour but he does offer explanations, maybe not very good ones but still better than nothing. Dustin Hoffman was also superb as Barney’s loud and obnoxious father. Every time he came on the screen I had a smile on my face. Minnie Driver was excellent as well, she is such an amazing actress and portrays her emotions so well on the screen. Overall, the acting was absolutely wonderful and I enjoyed the movie very much. It is definitely worth seeing even if you kind of hate the main character of the film.
