Heart Specialist Movie Reviews

Heart Specialist, directed by Dennis Cooper, is a comedy set in a hospital about interns and the trouble they go through working for the first time. Unfortunately, after countless shows over the years set in hospitals, there isn’t much story left that is uncharted territory. At times I felt like the writer was just watching Scrubs and House while writing this script. There just isn’t much left to do in the hospital situation. The movie had been in the making since 2006 but is only finally getting into theaters now because of Zoe Saldana, who was made a star from Avatar. Although I didn’t love the film, it did have it’s moments. There were a few quips in the dialogue that really had me laughing and a couple of the back and forths between the characters were hysterical so I can’t say the movie was all bad. If you are very into the many hospital set story plots that are out there today, you may still like this film but in the end it felt like nothing new.
The Heart Specialist, written and directed by Dennis Cooper, is a drama/comedy about a Harvard Medical school graduate who arrives at for his first internship at a hospital in South Florida. The twist in the movie happens when the chief resident played by Wood Harris realizes that the intern is only there to reclaim his lost love. At this point, he decides to teach them a lesson, which drives the plot of the movie. The movie is also about the difficulty of first year medical employees. Overall, I really liked this movie. I know nothing about working in a hospital besides what I see in shows like House, Scrubs, and ER. None of those shows seemed as real and authentic as The Heart Specialist made it seem. This is the first film I have seem by Dennis Cooper but I will be looking for more. This film was both funny and had its sad points as well. I would recommend this movie to people looking for a more mature film.
