i am an old rocker so i loved this movie.Tom Cruise was amazing and looked perfect for the part.It reminded me of grease but I am surprised some people did not like it.I wanted to go see a concert afterward and i want to buy it.I was entertained and I thought it was one of Cruises better parts. He was perfect.Go see it ,it's fun.
I thought this was a great and fun movie, full of awesome music and performances, especially Tom Cruise who is only in a small role but leaves the biggest impression. It's from the director of that other lovely movie musical "Hairspray" which sang and danced its way into our hearts almost five years ago. I loved John Travolta in drag in that one - this time, Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand play co-managers of a Hollywood club but are secretly in love with one another. Their kiss was my favorite in the movie (and there are a lot of kisses!)
The movie is definitely not your typical show tune broadway muscial - it features the songs of classic rock and roll stars, including Janis Joplin and Pat Benatar. I hope they take this movie on the road and show it live like they do with the American Idol contestants. They will have sold out shows for a decade, it's so much fun! Oh, and how freakin' cute is Julianne Hough?? LOVE HER!
I did not like this film and do not recommend seeing it in the theaters unless you are ready to pay money to see some starts doing kareoke. I can not deny that i was entertained by some of the numbers, especially by Tom Cruise, but i do not think this film is worth your time or money. I found the film to be extremely cheesy and not in a fun way and also it was quite dull and most of the time I was bored. The film was also oddly paced and full of silly cliches that really annoyed me. Overall, I think this film is not very good and i did not have fun watching it.
I'll go out on a limb and confess that I actually really liked this movie, much to my surprise. Directed by Adam Shankman, it has a great vibe and really great music that makes you wonder why more rock 'n roll musicals aren't made by Hollywood.
It's based on the classic musical from the 80s about a girl meets boy in Hollywood storyline that you've seen a million times before. But the performances by the "supporting" cast are what make it really fun, especially Tom Cruise as the leading rock 'n roll star of his era. It's unlike anything you've ever seen Cruise do before - he just *owns* every second of the movie that he appears in and you'll be wanting to see more of him when it's over. It's really a surprising and breakthrough performance.
Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand have an interesting love story in the movie that suits the modern era, though I was disappointed by Catherine Zeta Jones who didn't seem to have much to do in the film. I expect more from a star of her calibre in a movie like this, especially since she won an Oscar for her role in a musical almost 10 years ago. She's still amazingly beautiful, though, there's no doubt.
This is definitely going to be one of those films that I secretly love and do not admit to anyone that I do. The film is big, loud and very entertaining and all the great songs of the 80’s reminded me of my childhood and teenage years and I was kind of sad and happy watching this film. The film is extremely energetic and fun to watch and yes it has a lot of flaws and silly scenes that should have been cut because the film is way too long but i can not deny that I had a blast watching this movie. I thought the director chose a perfect cast for ths film and I truly enjoyed every performance, especially Tom Cruize’s, he was brilliant as an out of touch rocker. Overall, If you want to see an entertaining film I suggest this one, you will definitely have fun watching it.
I did not like this film and I do not think it is worth seeing in the theaters. I found the film to be extremely stupid and i know it was meant to be like that but I did not have a good time watching it. THe film was way too long and I could not wait to get out of the theater, what is up with making films that go on for 2 freaking hours? The film was not really a film but more like a collage of music videos connected by a slight and insignificant story. I have to say that I quite enjoyed Tom Cruize’s performance as a rock star, he was pretty amazing and even though I do not like him as a person I think he is is a good actor and a great entertainer. Overall, I do not think this film is worth the price of the movie ticket but if you are bored one day you might want to rent it.
Okay, I'll admit that I went into this movie just because my friends pressured me, but I was totally wrong. This movie was **amazing**! I could totally relate to the story of Sherri (played by Julianne Hough) who was the main character. She goes to Hollywood to find her dreams, leaving her small town home in Oklahoma behind, and ends up falling in love with a guy from a big city named Drew who wants to be a rock star.
There are some totally amazing musical numbers in the movie that will make you want to get up and dance, especially when Tom Cruise is on screen. His energy is just electric! As a fan of '30 Rock', I also really loved Alec Baldwin's performance as the grumpy owner of the Bourbon Room. There's a twist in his story with his assistant Lonny (played by Russell Brand) which I did not see coming. Needless to say, you won't forget it any time soon. Definitely the feel good movie of the summer!
This movie will be appreciated mostly by fans of rock and roll, especially older ones who remember the songs of the 1970s and 80s. There are a ton of actors in this movie - including Tom Cruise, Catherine Zeta Jones, and Alec Baldwin - but the real star is the music. It's been a long time since there's been a really fun musical from Hollywood and this one takes the cake. It's a fun filled love story about a girl from a small town and boy from a big city who meet and fall in love on Sunset Blvd. I'm sure this happens a lot in real life but the movie is anything but reality. It's a big, crazy fantasy with a lot of singing and dancing. As you would expect, Russell Brand is very funny but Tom Cruise gives a pretty awesome performance. Julianne Hough of "Dancing with the Stars" plays the main character, Sherrie. She's good, but you'll be more interested in the older characters like Alec Baldwin and Paul Giamatti.
Finally, Tom Cruise is BACK! After the last few years where we've seen him in mostly forgettable roles and movies, he's back with a bang as Stacee Jaxx, the ultimate rock and roller.
Cruise steals the movie with his incredible energy and livewire performance, making you want to jump up on screen and join him in a song. The movie is basically about a young couple that meets in Hollywood and then falls in love as they try to 'make it' in Tinsel Town. Their love story is told through the songs of rockers like Joan Jett, Bon Jovi, Journey, Whitesnake, and Pat Benatar.
The movie is chock full of amazing actors like Paul Giamatti, Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand, and Catherine Zeta Jones. I have a feeling this one is going to be an audience favorite this summer, if for nothing else than for its amazing soundtrack.
