Oliver Stone has made a lot of crazy arse and wacko movies lately (remember "Alexander"?) but this one is a vast improvement on even "Pinkville". Anyone who likes violence and gory movies will like "Savages" because it has both in spades, but thankfully neither of these elements overwhelm the story at the base of the movie. It's about a drug transaction that should never have been that becomes a desperate plot to save Blake Lively. I thought it was a stroke of genius to have Salma Hayek play the big boss villain since one never thinks of women as Mexican drug lords. The movie also has some very interesting moments between Hayek and Lively which movies like this rarely have (it's usually about the guys, see) but I'm glad that Stone went for something very unconventional this time. I hope this one isn't just a fluke and that he keeps making movies that are as gritty and intense.

I loved this film and I think it was totally awesome and I recommend seeing it in the theaters. The film was fast-paced, the story was very interesting and had great twists and turns and the cast was totally amazing. The film was well made and directed and it also looked really good. I am a fan of Oliver Stone films and even though his movies have been a bit weak lately I think this film is a great comeback for him. The only complaint that I have about this film is that Blake Lively is not good enough actress for this role and I wish someone else was playing Ophelia.

I thought this film was alright and some people will absolutely love it but I think it was a bit unoriginal and sometimes made no sense. The film is full of action and the story is pretty good although not very fresh. The film has an amazing cast and it was fun to watch them all work together but I did not like Blake Lively and I wish they chose a different actress to play this role because she totally ruined this film for me. Overall, this film will fall into the category of guilty pleasure and there is nothing wrong with that.

I recently read an interview with Oliver Stone where he admitted that he was CRAZY for years (like we didn't know) but this movie proves it! Only a twisted and demented mind could possibly think that this would be entertaining. Don't get me wrong, the acting is great and the dialogue is memorable, but who wants to sit through a movie where at least half of it is watching Blake Lively get almost murdered on a computer screen? I guess if you like movies like "Saw" you might find this slightly interesting but I cannot watch such gratuitous violence. In fact, I know I'm not the only one because I saw few people walk out of the theater and never come back about half way through. I almost walked out but I wanted to see what happened in the end. This is not a summer movie, it should have been released around Halloween with the other horror movies!!!

Wow, I don't really know what to say. I'm almost tempted to not write a review because I'm still kinda floored by what I saw in this movie but I feel like I should say something so here goes . . . this movie is really scary and horrifying, but still it should be seen by everyone I think. I wanted to see it because of Blake Lively who I think is so talented and pretty but I wasn't prepared for how gritty the movie would be. There's a lot of violence and ugly scenes in the movie so I wouldn't say it's appropriate for anyone under 16 or if you don't like violence. This movie is really up front about the drug wars that are going on right now near the Mexican border with the USA and it will probably make you think twice before you ever head down that way again. Seriously, it makes you not want to go anywhere near Mexico but I guess it's just a movie so you shouldn't take it that seriously. All things considered though, it is based on reality and it will probably be one of those movies this year that you see once and never forget.

This movie was freakin' awesome!!! I loved every minute of it, it was just so different from what you usually have to watch during the summer movies (which means superhero flicks and animated stories). Blake Lively plays a gorgeous woman named O (short for Ophelia) who has two friends/lovers that make a ton of dough off weed. When they spurn an offer from a drug cartel led by a woman named Elena (Salma Hayek), O is kidnapped and they threaten to kill her. A lot of the movie is basically scenes between the two parties as they negotiate from their webcams, which might sound boring but it's really tense since you know that O could be killed at any moment. Salma Hayek does look kinda odd in her black wig (it almost makes her look Asian) but I guess she had to stand out to play the role. Benicio Del Toro is great as a monster henchman and John Travolta is pretty good too. I would recommend that you not eat before or during this movie because it will make your stomach turn!

I know Oliver Stone has made some great movies in the past that I really loved - like "JFK" - but this movie is pretty sick and twisted. It's about how a drug operation goes horribly, terribly wrong when three young adults in Laguna Beach refuse to let a Mexican drug lord in on their business. I was expecting something more psychological (it is about weed, after all!) but it's mostly just a lot of physical violence and gun slinging. My son wanted to see this movie because it has two gorgeous actresses like Salma Hayek ad Blake Lively in it, but I wouldn't let him watch such a movie until he's at least 17. It's too much for me to take, I can't imagine what his teenage mind will be thinking when he sees how gruesome it is. I still think it's a good movie but it has too much violence for just violence's sake, I think. They could have made it more interesting if it were less bloody and more psychologically thrilling.

This is a great thriller/drama and a return to form for Oliver Stone. His last few films have not garnered him the kind of praise he's used to getting, but this one shows that he still knows how to make a great movie. It's about three friends who operate a successful marijuana business when the queen of a Mexican drug cartel shows up at their door and demands to be a part of their operation. They tell her no, which leads her to kidnap one of them (Blake Lively) who is threatened with death. The two friends then have to decide how to negotiate with the drug cartel to get their friend back.
Be forewarned: this is not a movie for the faint of heart. It's really gruesome and violent and occasionally sickening - but then that's the point of the whole thing. That's why it's called "Savages" - it shows us how really evil human beings can be when they forget themselves in pursuit of a goal.
The performances in the movie are great, especially Salma Hayek and Benicio Del Toro. John Travolta has a small-ish role as DEA which is kind of interesting because you never know whose side he's on. Overall, a great and suspenseful thriller that will have you transfixed on the screen even when you want to look away. For adults only!
